Design leadership · Design engineering · User research

Player-coach for product teams, fluent from discovery through design to the final line of code.

Design leader and design engineer with 15+ years across front-end engineering, user research and leadership. Helping design teams adopt AI-assisted coding without losing the craft, and working at a strategic level with senior leadership, with the user’s interests in the room.

What I do

With teams

Alignment

Helping senior stakeholders work out what the team should be doing, then working with designers to get it done, making sure everyone knows why we’re doing it (and not only what).

Coaching

Helping designers grow by working alongside them on their own projects, and guiding them through the shift to AI-assisted work, with code prototypes as part of their everyday toolkit.

Evidence

Doing user research continuously, and building the processes and tools that support it (repositories, playbooks, templates), so the user’s perspective is a regular ingredient in business decision-making.

Hands on

Building blocks

Design systems, AI skills and agents, so that good design scales. Taking the time to craft the building blocks, so that the team can go fast, staying consistent and ensuring a high baseline of quality.

Craft

For when a typical interface isn’t enough: rich interactions, direct manipulation (drag and drop, block-based workflow builders), data visualisation, and motion. From idea to execution.

Experiments

Staying up to date by trying new tools and workflows end to end (which I thoroughly enjoy), so the advice I give comes from experience: where they help, and where they fall short.
